The group's aims are to make the community and businesses of Lavenham Dementia Friendly, by raising awareness throughout the village. To be able to signpost and be a point of contact for carers and the cared for, also to offer meetings, to get together and socialise with others and Fundraising to make this happen.
Flyers were sent out in the village. Businesses and the Community were invited to become Dementia Friends. A Business Breakfast was held and also 3 Dementia Friends sessions, open to everyone. This resulted in a good uptake by both the Businesses and the Community, making Lavenham very aware.
We hold regular training sessions to enable people to find out more about Dementia. We provide training for local shops and businesses, helping to make Lavenham a Dementia Friendly village for residents and visitors alike. Four of our team are Dementia Champions and we look forward to taking the group forward in 2023.
We have made visits to other groups locally to see how they work, to help us decide our own way forward.
We have monthly meetings from 10.30am to 12.30pm on the 2nd Wednesday morning of each month in Tenter Piece Jubilee Room. Anyone interested is welcome to come along and join us for coffee and cake and a chat. For more information about this please telephone 07922 850082. As we have progressed, we now have more people attending our meetings and they have proven helpful to those who live with dementia, their carers and anyone who feels we can help or advise.
